Paul tells the Romans, "I find this law at work, 'that when I want to do good, there is evil right next to me." Romans 7:12 We all have an evil twin personality that we are ashamed about who when left in the dark, rules or at least compromises, our personality. For example, Jesus goes to his leader Peter just after his Last Passover, and says, "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon that your faith not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." Lk.22:31
Peter knows he is in trouble because he is being addressed as "Simon" when he had previously been re-named Peter the Rock. He is both shocked and offended to then have Jesus explain to him that not only will Peter not follow him to death, but he will actually deny that he is a disciple of Jesus three times before the sun comes up from this night.
Peter discovers that Jesus is correct. He discovers his shadow is Simon the Coward.
We all have three minds: a body mind which wants to get love and create a mask for our personality that we present to he world: our good twin. Then we develop a soul mind which wants us to get real, and our soul mind produces our evil twin, our shadow. (If you do not know your evil twin, your spouse does, and that is why they can both devastate and infuriate you.)
Before Jesus came into Peter's life he was known as Simon which means "Reputation". But after he does deny Jesus three times, he discovers his evil twin, his shadow is Simon the Coward.
50 days later the Holy Spirit covers Peter the Rock and Simon the Coward and he is reconciled and one with himself. He is both reconciled and reconciler. The stone the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
